Peppermint has excellent antispasmodic actions, calming and soothing the entire length of the digestive tract. Peppermint has been found to relieve intestinal colic and flatulence by its relaxing effect on smooth muscle. Due to its antimicrobial activity, peppermint may also help fight off infections such as the common cold and influenza. The volatile oil in peppermint acts as a mild anaesthetic to the stomach wall which may help with feelings of nausea during travel.
Spearmint (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is commonly used to relive symptoms of indigestion, nausea, vomiting and gas. It’s high in antioxidants and other beneficial plant compounds that may help balance hormones, lower blood sugar, reduce stress and improve memory. The leaves of the spearmint plant contain menthol, which has a relaxing and slightly sedative effect on the body. Studies have shown that spearmint promotes relaxation and alleviates stress by interacting with GABA receptors in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter involving in reducing nerve activity.
Raw Cacao Nibs (Theobroma cacao)
Organic cacao nibs are some of the most rich high-antioxidant foods. This is due to the phytonutrients available. The antioxidants help absorb the free radicals that cause damage to the body. These phytonutrients are similar to those found in grapes, berries and tea. Cacao nibs, when consumed are a high source of plant-based iron, magnesium, calcium and B vitamins.
